Hawthorne House

All images below have been created with the AutoCAD program by Sarah Catherine.

Hawthorne House Demolition Plan

For my demolition plan within this project, I chose to change the kitchen significantly. I removed and replaced all upper and lower cabinets. I did this in order to open up the space and make it more useable for larger gatherings.

I also opened up the den to the dining room to offer more movement and freedom throughout the home.

Hawthorne House Construction Plan

All the changes I accomplished are reflected in the construction plan of this project. You can see that in the kitchen, I have moved the fridge to the rear porch side wall and elongated all of those cabinets for maximum storage. In addition, I added an island for easy to reach cabinets and a great hosting atmosphere. This sink area is essentially the same aside from the addition of a dishwasher on either side of the sink for efficiency.

Hawthorne House Elevations

As mentioned above, you can see all changes made in the kitchen here in these elevations. For instance, You see the added island in the bottom left of the image. You can also see the two dishwashers on either side of the sink.

I made most lower storage drawers for easy organization and access. The upper cabinets are made with glass panes. And the backsplash is made with subway tiles in a chevron pattern for visual interest.

Hawthorne House Details

For the detail section on this assignment, I was able to create both sections of the upper cabinets (shown on the bottom left). I also created drawers for the lower cabinets as shown in the elevations. For the second base cabinet, I decided to draw my garbage bin cabinet. This allows the trash to be hidden from view, but also be easily accessed since it is on a drawer track. This again allows for the kitchen to look clear of clutter and clean altogether.

As for the wall detail, the only thing that is significant would be the drywall I added. Instead of incorporating stucco, I used smoothed drywall. I find it to be clean looking and smooth, but it also lets any artwork or details stand out. It's a good foundation for any interior decorating.

have included an image of a hatching exercise we did earlier in the semester. I believe this showcases my earlier abilities to navigate AutoCAD and explore the options it provides from a creative and artistic perspective.
